Maundy Thursday Mass

This is the first stage of the Easter Triduum. This Triduum celebrates one event over three days: the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This evening's stage was The Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper, here we recall that momentous evening when Jesus, as he celebrated the Passover Meal with his Apostles celebrated the first Eucharist, ordained his first priests and forever linked these with service, as he knelt to wash the feet of his followers.

Fr Darren was the chief celebrant who led this action. In his homily he reminded the congregregation that we were not simply looking back to an event 2000 years ago, we were celebrating a living reality; this was something happening now for each one present.  Some of the young people on our Confirmation Course and some of those who had been on the Journey of Faith came forward to have their feet washed. The Eucharist was celebrated and then, after Holy Communion, the Blessed Sacrament was taken in procession to the Altar of Repose; we remembered Jesus in his agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, and many parishioners stayed and 'watched' until the vigil was closed with Night Prayer from the Divine Office.
