I don't know if they were the 'rarest' flowers but they were certainly there in superabundance held aloft by the children as they processed into church to honour our Blessed Lady on this first day of May.

As usual the Service began in school with the boys & girls gathered in the hall. They remembered that both Our Lady and St Joseph (whose feast day the 1st of May is) said 'yes' to God so that His plan of bringing Jesus into the world could be accomplished. This procession enabled the children to say thank you to Our Lady for her 'yes.'. In the church the flowers were laid by her statute which had been carried from the school by some of the older children. A decade of the rosary was prayed, the Blessed Sacrament was exposed, the Divine Praises were made and, after the Benediction, a prayer of consecration was said before the children and their parents dispersed. That prayer is below.

O Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, as your Son lay dying upon the cross He gave you to be our Mother too. As we gather now to honour you, and seek your prayerful support, we dedicate and consecrate ourselves, our families and our parish to your powerful intercession. We ask that the cloak of your protection be put around us and that you keep us before the throne of your Son in your prayers.

Dear Lady, obtain for us many graces that we may serve our brothers and sisters. And that in all things, God may have the glory through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
