Carols by Candlelight The parishioners of St. Clare’s are a hardy bunch, they laughed in the face of snow, ice, frost and a piercing wind to attend the Family Carol Service by candlelight which was held in the church on the Sunday prior to Christmas.

The Christmas story was told through the selective readings from scripture and the sequence of carols. This is a very important message and one heard by those who only occasionally come to church. The message that God so loved the world that he sent his only Son, the message that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, the message of the incarnation.

This year as last, the boys and girls from St Clare’s school accompanied by teachers, sang song carols much to the delight of the congregation. There was joy also in that some of the parishioners from St. Mary’s, Fernyhalgh, our link parish, joined us for the celebration.

And after the Service in church we repaired to the Parish hall were ‘seasonal’ refreshments were enjoyed by a good number of the congregation.
