St. Clare’s Children's Liturgy

This is the Word of God presented to the children in a way that is appropriate for their age.
In St. Clare’s this is held in the Parish Hall during the 9.30am Mass each Sunday. We usually have two groups for children ages 3-6 and 6+

We try to ensure that Children's Liturgy is an enjoyable experience for the children which nurtures their relationship with God as equal members of our Parish Community.

What is Children's liturgy ?

"Children's Liturgy" is actually the "Liturgy of the Word for Children". We begin with a few words of introduction to the theme of the day. We then tell God we are ‘sorry’ ask his ‘forgiveness’ and ‘help’ to try harder to be good. We read and explain the Gospel of the day at a level the children can understand and enjoy. We enrich this with discussion, pictures, prayers, songs and plays. We also try to raise awareness of God's love, the humanity of Jesus, the Seasons of the Church, the understanding of symbols in the Mass.

Our aim is to make the children's experience of church meaningful, whilst helping them to grow in the faith of the Catholic Church and develop as full and active members of our Parish Community.

The liturgy is held in the Parish Hall and children usually come alone. A child under school age may be accompanied by an adult.

Help Needed!

We are currently seeking leaders and assistants to help us with our programme.

For further information, or to volunteer, please contact any of the leaders, or one of the priests

Children’s Liturgy Catechists have regular training and a rota is organised four to six months in advance. We like to have enough catechists for a 5/6 weeks rota. We would appreciate any help that is offered. All Catechists and helpers are cleared for this work by the Parish Child Protection Officers.
