visit to Cenacolo

In the afternoon of July 4th a convoy of vehicles snaked up the M6 to Mealbank a hamlet just north of Kendal, to the Cenacolo Community which is established in the former chapel and presbytery of SS Robert & Alice, Dodding Green. This is an ancient Catholic site where the faith was alive and burning during the penal times of the 17th and 18th centuries, and it is now home to a Community of former drug addicts.

The visit of the parishioners to the Community of 'Our Lady Queen of Martyr's' was in response to one paid by two of the Community to St. Clare's in June when, at the end of Mass,  the two lads gave their testimony of how the Community had saved them from the death of addiction.
Twenty five parishioners went to Dodding Green and wwere shown round the place by Denis and Daniel. They heard a history of the building, and then the lads shared about the beginnings of Cenacolo and how they looked upon it as a 'school of life.' Then they gave their personal testimonies of how they were being healed of their addiction by the simple way of life of the Community which is based upon friendship, work and prayer. All who were present were touched by what they heard and encouraged by what they saw. As a parish we shall continue to support the Community with the box for 'providence' (usually food stuffs) which is in the church porch.
