THE MAY PROCESSION

May ProcessionTraditionally in the Catholic Church, May is the month set aside to pay particular honour to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. This year's May Procession began in the School Hall where the boys and girls gathered together with their teachers and a good number of parents and grandparents.

The Service began with prayer and song, supported by Judith Challoner The priest asked the boys and girls to pray especially for their mums and dads and anyone in need.

The procession snaked its way across the play ground to the church door where the girls and boys formed a guard of honour through which the statue of our Lady was carried. The statue was then placed on the plinth in church and bunch upon bunch of flowers were placed before the statue.

When everyone was settled they prayed the 5th Glorious Mystery of the Rosary: The Coronation of our Lady in Heaven, again the priest asked the girls and boys to pray for their parents and the parents to pray for their children.

Attention then turned to Jesus with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and the Divine Praises. At the end of Benediction everyone stood and prayed the prayer of Consecration to our Lady. After the last hymn, the children quietly left church and the flower ladies set about their task of turning the ad hoc bunches of flowers into a shrine for our Lady. A task they carried off with great aplomb. The Shrine will remain in situ until the end of the month.
