The photographs that support this short article were taken when the Boys and girls of St. Clare's School came to give thanks for the Harvest. This may seem a strange notion from a parish within a city. It would sit easier perhaps if we were in the middle of a rural community and could see first hand the reaping of the crops at harvest time.
Our Harvest Service, in which every child in the school took part, was an opportunity for the boys and girls (and their parents and others) to reflect on where our food comes from and the great effort that goes into producing it. It is a time too, to give thanks that we have enough to eat and to remember those who don't.
The boys and girls were a joy to behold; they were reverent, for they were in church, but there was also great joy in their choral recitation, thier singing, the playing of the musical instruments, the readings from scripture and the prayers.
And, of course, others would benefit from the largesse of their parents. All the items brought to school for the harvest, will be distributed amongst the elderly, sick and housebound.
