The parish gathered for our Easter Vigil and participate in what is a spectacular liturgy as we celebrate Jesus' resurrection. This was also an occasion to welcome Bill Hargreaves and Julie Malone into the church.
The ceremony started in the usual manner with the blessing of the fire followed by a procession into the church lead by the light from the Paschal candle. Slowly the candle light is passed from person to person until the whole of the church was illuminated.
Later, the water is blessed and following the renewal of our baptismal promises two new members, Bill Hargreaves and Julie Malone were received into the church. The sacrament of confirmation was bestowed on them both as they were anointed with chrism.
We sung ‘Alleluia’ during our first mass of Easter in celebration of the Risen Lord.
Following the service there was a party in the parish hall where both Bill and Julie were presented with a certificate by the parish priest, Fr Loughran.
