Cathedral VisitEach year the young people preparing for Confirmation, as part of their course, visit the Cathedral in Lancaster, the Mother church of the Diocese; it is the church of the Bishop who will Confirm them.

They set off by coach and arrived safe and sound in less that an hour. The Cathedral is dedicated to St. Peter. They were given a guided tour and, as you will see from the attached photographs, they started in the Baptistry, also known as the Chapter House. They took particular interest in the Holy Oils which are kept in the Cathedral, one of which (Chrism) will be ued at their Confirmation Mass. Perhaps the 'high'light of their visit was to climb up the cathedral steeple (from the inside). They paused half way us to visit the room where the peel of bells are rung and then made their way to the outside viewing gallery well up aloft from where they got spectacular views of the city and beyond.

A little time was spent in the library consolidating their visit with a little academic work. They attened Mass and had lunch and then came back home. Thanks to those who accompanied them and those at the cathedral who showed them round.
