Following the Second Vatican Council, Pope Paul VI issued a New Roman Missal for the Universal Church. This was the first 'new' Missal in 400 years.
The Council Fathers in their document Sacrosanctum Concilium allowed the Mass to be celebrated in the vernacular, i.e. the language of the local Church. Thus in this country we began to celebrate Mass in English. It was a mammoth task to translate the Missal from Latin into English. There was great pressure for an English translation to be quickly available; translating under pressure is not ideal. Now after a couple of generations of use and 16 years of consultation a new translation has been agreed and approved. That of course, required the production of a new Missal. The new english version has been published by the CTS and beautifull printed and bound in Italy.
At Mass on the feast of the Apostles SS Simon and Jude, the new Missals were blest and used for the first time.
