Quarant Ore, the Latin term which means 'forty hours', is the name we give to the solemn prolonged exposition of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. Each year every parish in the diocese is asked to hold Quarant Ore for worship of Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament.
Our parish Quarant Ore got off to a very wet start this afternoon due to the rain, nevertheless, before going out into the rain our children sat in reverent silence as they adored the Blessed Sacrament in the school hall. After a short period of time our Primary school children led the Blessed Sacrament Procession from the school to the church. One child from each class walked alongside the Blessed Sacrament holding one candle each. These were lit once the Blessed Sacrament had reached the altar. These eight candles, one for each class, will burn during the entire Quarant Ore. The children and people of the parish spent some time in prayer and adoration before the children returned to school.
Quarant Ore extends over the next three days: Friday until 7pm closing with the Rosary for Vocations and Benediction; Saturday after the 10am Mass until just before the 6pm Vigil Mass. Prior to Mass there will be simple Benediction. Sunday from after the 9.30am Mass until a Holy Hour at 3pm. All are welcome. O Come let us adore Him!
