The title is a bit of a misnomer, or at least in part. For although the Sanctuary was bedecked with candles not so the parishioners in the benches. This year we were innovative and instead of using hand candles we plumbed for Glowsticks. Glowsticks do not create a mess of wax and neither do they set fire to hymn sheets or singe people's hair! However, neither do they create the usual atmosphere.
On this dreary, dank and damp evening the church was nicely full of young and old, families and friends gathered to hear the Christmas Story through the medium of the scriptures and the carols.
We were joined by our friends from St. Mary's, Fernyhalgh, our link parish. Also celebrating with us were some of the children from our primary school who led us in a couple of the carols and also in preparing a manger for Christmas.
