It is said that every picture tells a story, well I hope that the gallery attached to this article bears that out.

On the feast of St Joseph after the morning Mass a group of our young people (and adult helpers) who are to go to the World Youth Day in Krakow in August, took part in the Deanery Pilgrimage for this Holy Year of Mercy, to the Shrine of the Lancaster Martyrs' and the Diocesan Cathedral. But they did it slightly differently from everyone else - they walked! Well, at least part of the way from Preston to Lancaster.

Eventually the young people and the rest of the parish group, together with parishioners from other parishes, met up at the Martyr's Memorial on the hill above the Cathedral where many martyrs met their death in the 16th and 17th centuries. There, prayers were said and the whole group of pilgrims processed down the hill to the Cathedral reciting the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary. Once at the Cathedral the creed was recited outside the Holy Door and then all entered the cathedral through it. In the church there was opportunity for Confession and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament was celebrated. But before we returned to Preston a group photograph was taken.
