A holy and wholesome thought is what the Book of the Maccabees says about praying for the dead.
And that is what we did at St Clare's on the first Sunday of November which has become a sort of tradition over these past years. Those bereaved in the previous 12 months are invited personally to a short Service of remembarnce for their loved ones whose funerals have been conducted by clergy from St Clare's.
A general invitation was also issued to the parishioners and there was quite a gathering of those too, who came to remember and pray for their dead.
Eternal rest give unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
