The next day, bleary eyed, some of our parishioners took part in the first of four processions through the city during Guild Week: The Trades Procession. And whilst they were wandering through an unusually sunny Preston, other parishioners were hard at work preparing our Parish’s Guild Float which will have a centre place in the Churches Procession on Monday.

Saturday evening saw a great gathering of the Catholics of Preston and district at St. Walburghe’s church in Maudland, it stand close to the site of the old Franciscan Friary of the Middle Ages. Here Holy Mass was celebrated by Bishop Campbell OSA, Bishop of Lancaster supported by other Bishops and many priests. The Archbishop of Westminster preached the sermon reminding us of the Catholic history of Preston and calling for us to be confident Catholics living in a society that is contrary to our Christian way of life. He asked us to to say close to the person of Jesus Christ, to grow in holiness and to continue to reach out to those less fortunate than ourselves.
