On Ash Wednesday, 17th February, the Church enters the holy season of Lent.

This year, due to the pandemic, different arrangements will be in place for Ash Wednesday. There are three opportunities to receive ashes:

9:30am Mass (also livestreamed)

6pm Liturgy of the Word

7:30pm Mass [not a Liturgy of the Word, as previously advertised]

Ashes will be distributed in a Covid-safe way at all these services. You do not need to book for these, but please be aware that capacity is limited and we cannot guarantee access.

Ash Wednesday is also a day of fasting and abstinence. This means only eating one main meal, plus a lighter meal/snack, during the day, and abstaining from meat, alcohol, sweet foods and other luxuries. Those who are unwell or elderly are not obliged to fast, though abstinence is still observed.
