Hodovo is a village in Bosnia & Herzegovina to which a former refugee settlement is connected. Families from other parts of the former Yugoslavia were ‘ethnically cleansed’ to this barren outcrop during the bloody conflict in that country in the 1990s. St Clare’s parish & school have been ‘reaching out’ to these people since 2008 building on the outreach of Kendal parish.
Over recent years we have provided a stable water supply to one little school, refurbished and stocked a library, provided funds for winter fuel, brought some young Bosnians to Preston for an educational visit and the list goes on.
Our next project scheduled for August 2014 is for a group of young people to go to Hodovo and help to refurbish the Primary School there. We are very busy raising funds for this at present.
